Get an accurate diagnosis
Musculoskeletal injuries, whether acute or chronic, are more successfully treated if they are diagnosed accurately from the start. This is where Musculoskeletal Ultrasound (MSK USS) comes in.
An ultrasound scanner uses inaudible and non-harmful high-frequency sound waves to produce an image of the body’s internal structures. High-resolution images of muscle, tendon, ligament, bursa, some bony structures, cartilage, and subcutaneous tissues can help accurately diagnose injury or identify disease.
Dr Kay Brennan, Sports and Exercise and Medicine Consultant and Dr Wayne Sturley, GP with a Specialist Interest in Orthopaedics, offer MSK US as part of a their comprehensive assessments, if deemed clinically useful.
Ultrasound can not only help diagnose a torn tendon, inflamed bursa or sprained ligament, but if an injection is part of the treatment plan, then the use of ultrasound can accurately guide the needle to the exact area of concern. This improves the chance of a successful outcome and may reduce pain during the procedure.
